Hartford
We understand that the pandemic affects so many aspects of day-to-day life, including the amount of time people spend on the road. That’s why we’ve created our COVID-19 Personal Auto Payback Plan, giving our auto insurance customers a 15 percent credit on their April and May auto insurance premiums.
The 15 percent payback will be given on two months’ worth of premium for all customers with an active auto policy as of April 1, 2020. This credit applies whether you pay your bill in full or in installments, and those who pay in installments will receive a credit toward their next payment. We are working with state insurance departments to approve these credits as quickly as possible so we can get our customers their payments. If you have an auto policy with us, you do not need to take any action to receive this credit.
Mercury
Mercury plans to giveback 15% of monthly premiums for April and May 2020. This applies to all Mercury Private Passenger Automobile policy holders.
Progressive
Progressive will be providing credits of approximately $1 billion in premium to Progressive personal auto customers as a result of fewer claims that come with less frequent driving.
Subject to approval by state regulators, Progressive personal auto customers who have a policy in force as of April 30th will be credited 20% of their April premiums in May and personal auto customers with a policy in force as of May 31st will be credited 20% of their May premiums in June. We estimate that the sum of these two credits will total approximately $1 billion. We may offer additional credits in the upcoming months.
Customers will not need to take any actions to receive the benefits. The credits will be applied automatically to the customer’s policy and those customers who have paid in full will receive a payment of the credited amounts.
Safeco
Fewer drivers are on the road, which means fewer accidents. With this in mind, we are announcing our Personal Auto Customer Relief Refund, which will return approximately $250 million to our Liberty Mutual personal lines and Safeco auto customers. Here’s how it works:•Personal auto insurance customers will receive a 15% refund of two months of their annual auto premium as of April 7, 2020, pending regulatory approval.
•The refunds will begin in April and will be issued either by check or in the manner the customer made their most recent payment.
•The payments will happen automatically. Customers do not need to call Safeco to receive the refund.
State Auto
State Auto customers with Personal Auto policies as of June 1, 2020 will receive an automatic 5% discount on their policy premium at their next renewal, for the entire policy period.
Travelers
Travelers is giving U.S. personal auto insurance customers a 15% credit on their April and May premiums through its new Stay-at-Home Auto Premium Credit Program. The company will automatically credit customers’ accounts, providing them with prompt and much needed relief during this time. Travelers will continue to assess the program as more information comes to light about the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the driving environment and auto claims.
